TWO searches for lost items recently: for me and for a friend. Results: entirely similar – things were exactly where we’d left them, mine being on my wrist as it happens!

We just “couldn’t see them for looking”, as mum used to say – couldn’t see the wood for the trees.

One month into New Year, resolutions born of optimism being buried under old habits and competing demands, I began to think of other things that get lost along the way in life.

Recent passing of our rock and pop music heroes reminds us of youth, enthusiasm and, perhaps, aspirations. With the loss of icons we loved and admired I wondered if it reminded some of us of long lost dreams and hopes, making them ever more distant.

If unfulfilled, should they remain so, however? Youngster David Bowie used to tell people he would be a star one day, and he was. Some people don’t achieve their ambitions till much later in life. It’s time to focus, not on passing resolutions, but on a time before life got in the way of our strongest ambitions. For Jesus’ mother, the birth of her baby brought its fair share of highs and lows – more than most: the trauma of an enforced journey whilst pregnant, birth away from home in less than ideal conditions, subsequent flight to safety could have driven all exciting aspects of angels, dreams, strange visitors, gifts and prophecy from her mind. It was said that she “treasured these things” and, 33 years later!

Is it time to return to where you left your treasure in the dreams attic of your younger days. Like that watch and that mobile phone, they are right where you left them! Time to dust off those ideas that fuelled your earlier inspiration. Adjustments may be necessary, but you have advantages that come with experience to create those. It will very likely have a positive impact on your general well-being:

Hope deferred (delayed) makes the heart sick, but when desire comes it is a tree of life” Proverbs 13 v 12 (Amplified Bible)

Time for a revival!
