THIS shooting party on Keighley Moor on the Glorious Twelfth of August in 1920 included some of the district's elite in the shape of Colonel Bateman DSO, John H Craven, Robert Holden, Norman Walker, WA Clough, James Bairstow, William Anderton Brigg and Leolin Brigg.
The weather that summer had been generally poor, and August 12 dawned with thick mist and drizzle. This party's bag amounted to 58 brace, the worst the Briggs had experienced in 45 years. On the whole, the birds were "in a backward condition."
That year similarly disappointing results were reported from Oakworth, Haworth, Bingley and Ilkley moors, although the Bingley birds were in better condition.
