IN 1959 the St Michael’s Players at Haworth Parish Church gave When We Are Married, JB Priestley’s comedy about three respectable self-important couples who meet to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary only to discover that they were not properly married.
Here is Johnny O’Connell as the boozy photographer. The three couples were taken by Barbara Binns, Joyce Sutcliffe and Mary Metcalfe, and Irvin Dransfield, Frank Bailey and Norman Sutcliffe.
The performances took place in what was then called the Old Schoolroom. According to the Keighley News reviewer, the audience “laughed and laughed and gave the players a grand reception”.
