THESE neighbourhood children were celebrating VE-Day – Victory in Europe – at Goose Eye in May, 1945. They were photographed outside the hamlet’s focal point, the Turkey Inn, which had risen to the occasion by chalking a letter V for Victory above the doorway!

Two boys are holding celebratory flags. Their festivities would probably comprise tea and games.

The group is largely made up of family elements: Mrs Pickles together with Sandra, Watson, Una, Betty, Donald, Harry and Derek; Mrs Day with Mary and Jill; Mrs Staines with Patricia and Greta; Maureen Inman and her mother; Raymond, Kenneth, Rosemary, Doreen and Elaine Lund; and Roy and Billy Judson. Also included are Kenneth Allan, Peter Fox, Margaret Hartley, Shirley Sayer, Rita Wilkinson (who has provided the names), and Mrs Bates, then landlady at the Turkey Inn.

The photograph has been supplied by Mr Kevin Seaton, of Shann Lane, Keighley.
