THIS snicket or ginnel (take your pick) ran from Church Green into the top end of Keighley Market, between the King’s Arms and the parish church, whose railings took on an added prominence in this narrow space.
Now, situated next to an open car park, they seem less noticeable.
The building on the right, with its historic windows, was a relic of the King’s Arms past as a coaching inn with a “barn, stable, and other outbuildings”.
Ironically, when some years ago Keighley’s modern market hall closed for refurbishment, some older customers preferred the temporary stalls erected on the present car park because they were reminded of the homelier old market of their younger days!
All three photos are from the collection of Kevin Seaton, of Riddlesden.
