PHOTOGRAPHER John E Cole, of The Holycroft Studio at 45 Aireworth Street, Keighley (established 1874), advertised his portraits of picnic parties, family groups, private residences and “every class of outdoor photography”, as seen here.
He has brought a turn-of-the-century mother and child outside, perching the little girl on the window-sill. Both are dressed – in the child’s case over-dressed – for what was then an important family record.
Mr Cole’s charges were, he stated, moderate, and he kept all his negatives so that “copies can always be had at the Studio”.
Notice the shutters that can be closed outside the window.
