HERE we seem to have most of the 170 employees’ children who attended a Christmas party at NSF Ltd, of Ingrow, in 1953.
Held in the works canteen on the Saturday before Christmas, this was organised by a social and athletic committee.
Uncle Mac entertained with a Punch and Judy show, and Santa Claus – here hidden right at the back – gave every child a present. Works children’s parties were customary in 1953.
Dean, Smith and Grace Ltd played host to 290 children and 186 adults, with Mr James P Smith himself appearing down a chimney as Santa Claus.
For the National Association of Local Government Officers’ party, Santa in the shape of Dr HM Holt, borough medical officer of health, was drawn into the municipal hall by sleigh!
