MRS Norma J Galvin, of Dradishaw Road, Silsden, has supplied this rather more stylish and summery 1930s outing noted on the back as “Edmondsons Mill trip”, which would mean worsted spinners Timothy Hird and Sons Ltd, of Acres and Knowle Mills, Keighley, run by the Edmondson family.

In the days when many didn’t possess a camera, such group photographs formed an important family record.

On this one, somebody has written “Raymond” to indicate Mrs Galvin’s father Raymond Wilson, who worked there.

Favourite destinations for works trips were Morecambe and Blackpool, but the most spectacular by far was in 1920, when Messrs Hey and Co – and John Wright (Ingrow) Ltd – treated 60 employees to a nine-day tour of Great War battlefields in France and Belgium.
