This typical between the wars Sunday school walking day passing the King's Arms Inn, at Sutton, was probably photographed in 1936.

If so, it represents an extra-special occasion as the Sutton Baptist Church was celebrating the 50th anniversary of its new Sunday school.

On a fine Saturday afternoon the Sunday school scholars and teachers, some carrying banners, walked in procession around the village. Afterwards there was a tea and open-air hymn singing to the strains of the Keighley Salvation Army Band.

While most of those shown here are wearing rather cautious summer clothes - notice the long coats - the shawled old lady standing on the right belongs to an earlier generation.

The photograph has been supplied by Mrs M E Spencer, of Southlands Grove, Riddlesden.
