SCHEMES that create jobs and bring investment are generally welcomed.

News then of the planned multi-million pound industrial development in Keighley, with the hundreds of jobs it's likely to generate, will go down well with many.

It's another sign of growing confidence in the town's commercial offering and strength of economy.

And confidence breeds confidence, providing a catalyst for further outward-looking firms to stake their future here.

A worry for some may be the partial loss of greenbelt – something nobody is keen to see.

But in many ways the proposed scheme represents a natural extension of the mainly-industrial Royd Ings Avenue area of the town.

Plus, with the transformation of nearby Hard Ings Road to dual carriageway just around the corner, transport links are set to be greatly improved.

It is hugely important that people make use of next week's consultation session to learn more about the plans – and give their views – ahead of any planning application being submitted.

There will of course be more opportunities to comment as the process goes on, but early input is essential.

It is somewhat ironic that the site earmarked for the investment is next door to parcel delivery firm Yodel's Keighley depot, which it was announced this week is facing closure with the possible loss of 45 jobs.

Our thoughts go out to those employees affected and their families and we hope they are given the help and support they deserve.
