THE company behind Keighley's controversial planned incinerator is retaining a steely silence as the furore over its scheme continues to grow.

From a 'no comment' when we approached it recently, the Isle of Man-based Endless Energy had not even bothered to respond to messages as we went to press this week.

Its refusal to talk will only fuel fears that it has something to hide.

Opponents of the waste-to-energy plant will not simply go away.

Irrespective of whether you agree with what they say, a sizeable number of people are now voicing concerns and surely they deserve answers to their questions.

Even our MP Kris Hopkins, who has reiterated his support for the project, says the developer should be providing reassurances to the public.

Alas, this is about the only area in which Mr Hopkins and the objectors concur.

The MP is quite correct in his assertion that he's fully entitled to his own opinion, as is anyone.

But unlike many others, he is also publicly accountable and has a responsibility towards all sectors of the electorate.

Whilst he doesn't have to agree with what everybody says, shunning people's concerns – as perceived by the objectors – will help no one.
