IT'S all too easy these days for people to turn a blind eye if they come across an incident in the street.

Some are simply reluctant to get involved, or perhaps fear for their own safety.

It is a sad situation, but unfortunately a modern-day reality.

And that makes it all the more refreshing and heartwarming when we do hear of 'Good Samaritan' tales.

This week we spotlight Keighley taxi driver Qamar Hussain, who has received a bravery award after he went to the aid of a policewoman.

Qamar stepped in when the officer was struggling to subdue a violent suspect in a Keighley street.

He helped restrain the man until police reinforcements arrived.

We add our own congratulations to Qamar, who showed real courage and no regard for his own safety.

It is important, as the world changes around us, that we retain that community spirit.

Helping fellow people in need has always been a cornerstone of society.

Hopefully, despite everything that's going on around the globe today, that will never disappear.
