SO the opponents of Keighley’s planned waste-to-energy incinerator have had their days in court.

Being granted the judicial review was in itself a significant victory for those against the hugely controversial scheme.

Now they must wait a little longer to see if they are ultimately victorious, or whether the judge rules in favour of Bradford Council.

The initial planning application for the waste plant at Marley passed through the system fairly quietly, below the radar of many.

But once alarm bells began ringing, the campaigners’ bandwagon soon gained momentum – and increasingly, credence.

Whatever the outcome of this week’s hearing, we won’t have heard the last of the issue.

The anti-incinerator lobby has already indicated that should it lose, it won’t simply disappear with a whimper. It intends maintaining its campaign.

And equally, those behind the scheme seem determined their plans should reach fruition.

There’s still some way to go in this drama and how it will play out remains uncertain. Watch this space!
