Letters to the editor

12:00pm Friday 17th May 2013

Council’s total disregard and contempt for town I read with interest the piece in today’s Keighley News re funding cuts for the popular Oktoberfest and Christmas markets – Doubt over the future of markets (Keighley News, May 9).

It's time for answers

Thanks for your support in my search for Fluffy

1:50pm Friday 3rd May 2013

Through your letters page, can I express my thanks to the householders and dog wardens in the Occupation Lane area. Late afternoon on April 23, I was searching for my black and white cat, Fluffy, who had been missing for several hours. I was particularly concerned as she had a paper carrier bag in tow. I’m pleased to report she turned up safe and sound later, minus the paper bag! Thank you for your support.

Honoured send-off – but first you have to achieve

5:50pm Thursday 2nd May 2013

It is great Patricia Packer replied – We’re all in it together, therefore no funeral costs (Keighley News, April 25) – to my letter – The true cost of all of this will be closer to zero (Keighley News, April 18) – when I pointed out Margaret Thatcher’s funeral cost nearer to zero than the £10 million that was predicted, because almost all involved were already salaried, and St Paul’s Cathedral and other facilities already existed. And with the tax on the worldwide TV rights, the exchequer might even be in profit. She says that’s great, so we can all have a send off like that. I say to her: Yes of course you can, Patricia, but first you have to achieve as much as she did in your lifetime! If you do, you will be honoured in the same way!

There is opposition to capping of precepts bill

3:40pm Thursday 2nd May 2013

I note from your report last week of the Member for Keighley’s comments on his proposed Bill to cap parish precepts – Precept rise bill debate facing delay (Keighley News, April 25) – that Mr Hopkins states: “I’m delighted my proposed law change has so far received an overwhelmingly positive response, both locally and nationally. The exceptions are a small number of councils...”

With reference to Jens Hislop’s letter in last week’s Keighley News – The true cost of all this will be closer zero (April 18).
