TO REPLY to the letter by Councillor Samuel Fletcher last week where he muses aloud how he doesn’t see the point Keighley has a town council if it can have its own local authority covering the Aire valley to split from Bradford – Support new council (Keighley News, January 15).
If he thinks Keighley can do without a town council then who will look after what remains of the allotments? Who will support small local charities and ventures who go to our town council for help? Who will support small ventures and initiatives when its the town councillors who intimately know their own areas? And doesn’t Cllr Fletcher think Bingley would continue to assert its own local initiative to get a town council after a split from Bradford?
Although Cllr Fletcher makes a case for splitting Keighley from Bradford Council, I think his letter should focus more upon his own contribution to town hall meetings.
I ask him to please speak up during town hall meetings, keep up with the news, please work for something and add value to the precept-funded council.
