FURTHER to your article ‘Why should I pay for my dog’s care?’ (Keighley News, May 7), so Mr Kernan thinks the council should pay for the care of his dogs? By council, does he mean you and I and all the council tax payers of the area, because that is who the council get their money from.

So I ask Mr Kernan — why should I pay for the care of your dogs? I don’t own a dog, never have and one of the reasons I don’t is because I can’t give the time, money and effort to look after a dog responsibly. He claims the dogs are his life! Well if he thinks so much about them he should be prepared to spend whatever it cost to give them the care they need. If he can’t afford to, then he shouldn’t have them. His attitude is typical of much of today’s society who disown any personal responsibility for their life and expect the state to step in with ‘hand outs’ for every occasion.
