FOR more than a year the roadside drains at the top of Woodhouse Road have been full of sand, washed down from the sandstone hills.
This is useful for my environmental and biology lessons because I now know dandelions grow in sandy earth.
Last winter, the rain water couldn’t get into the drains. It quickly flowed down Woodhouse Road and forced stones out of the wall of the bridge that goes over the river.
The wall was repaired, but if the rain can’t go down the drains, more damage could be done to the wall.
If drainage holes were put at the bottom of the wall it would be easier for rain water to drain into the river. There would be less chance of the road flooding again. Parts of the wall wouldn’t be washed into the river, raising water level and causing flooding closer to town.
