THERE is little doubt 2016 has seen divisions emerge throughout the world and especially in this country.
Brexit, be it right or wrong, has seen our communities, families and neighbours put at odds, and these divides look only to continue in the future.
All of this has been added to by politics in general, with stark divides between the left and right, as well as internal divides between the centre and more radical fringes of politics.
I hope 2017 offers us all a fresh start and an opportunity, regardless of our differences, to be able to come together and work towards a united future for the good of all.
We know Brexit will be ongoing, we know cuts are to come and we know many communities are at odds with each other. But by working together we can help build bridges to benefit all rather than burning them down, which benefits no one.
COUNCILLOR LUKE MAUNSELL Oakworth ward Keighley town councillor
