I THOUGHT I should let you know that the Keighley News has a longer reach than we may sometimes expect.
On sunny bright Boxing Day I was in Wentworth, near Rotherham, an attractive estate village adjoining the parkland of stately Wentworth Woodhouse, where traditionally half the folk in South Yorkshire congregate and walk their dogs at Christmas.
The George and Dragon public house was packed shoulder to shoulder, with Morris dancers entertaining another crowd outside. Thinking myself totally among strangers, I was manoeuvring my way through the crush when a bearded gentleman coming the opposite way said, without the slightest hesitation: “It’s the man from the Keighley News.”
That’s what a weekly postage-stamp photograph can do for you.
