I WAS particularly interested to read the item on the tragic death of rugby player Harry Myers in Ian Dewhirst’s endlessly fascinating Memory Lane feature – Star’s tragic death (Keighley News, December 29).
Harry was, without doubt, one of the most accomplished and influential players ever to don a KRLFC shirt and, as such, was inducted into Keighley Cougars’ Hall of Fame in the late 1990s.
When it became clear during the induction that – despite the huge respect in which he was held in his lifetime – he had laid in an unmarked grave for almost a century, a public appeal was launched. The necessary funds were quickly raised and his final resting place is now clearly marked in Utley Cemetery. It declares He Gave His Life For The Club.
