THE ongoing saga of uncertainty regarding Keighley Police Station – Top cop in the dark over town station’s future (Keighley News, January 12) – seems to progress nowhere.

Even when questions are asked of the Police and Crime Commissioner and were asked of the then Justice Secretary, Chris Grayling, on his visit to Keighley Police Station, as reported in the Keighley News some time ago, no answers are given to satisfy the public and its representatives in local or national government.

As Mr Grayling is now making decisions on the High Speed Rail Link, as I understand, I hope his decision-making is a little quicker, as the mentioned link will no doubt be going ahead in the next ten years plus. The only information we are given regarding the police station is that “the matter is under review”.

Well, let’s review the latest plea by the Police and Crime Commissioner in relation to increasing the police precept rate to keep the people safe. Although West Yorkshire, I am told, is somewhere near the top of the crime league, my answer is no way! When the Police and Crime Commissioner can answer a question, such as I have just done, perhaps we can give him a little more respect.

On a lighter note, my last letter to the Keighley News requested the esteemed Ian Dewhirst show a picture of a police officer on the beat to remind the people of Keighley what such a sight was. I must now thank him for his response, as in the latest Keighley News such a picture depicts this – pity it was taken in the Edwardian period!
