THE fact A-boards are a common sight across our high streets shows it is time to do something about it and remove them – Council blasted over bid to ban A-boards (Keighley News, January 12).

For a number of reasons, they make it difficult and sometimes impossible for disabled people to move around our towns where A-boards clutter our streets. It is more than difficult for people pushing pushchairs, struggling for space. Safety issues, causing tripping or falling. Not to mention they are downright unsightly.

As a driver, I am not sure of their benefits. I concentrate on the busy roads around towns, hence don’t see them – they are just clutter on our pavement.

There are far more effective ways of advertising using social media, good shop window displays and word of mouth.

I see the ban as a way of us all getting our act together with social responsibility at the forefront. Let’s be proud of the accessibility and the look of our streets.
