THE Friends of Silsden Town Hall (FoSTH) would like to thank all those people who’ve joined our fight to keep the town hall as a community resource – either by signing our petition, by coming to our very well-attended public meeting on January 9 and/or completing and submitting one of Bradford Council’s own consultation forms.

We were also very pleased that Silsden Town Council, at its meeting on January 5, pledged to support FoSTH’s fight to stop the town hall being subject to community asset transfer. This involves volunteers taking on full day-to-day and financial responsibility for the building. Failing that, the town hall could face closure in the next couple of years, leaving the many groups and activities that currently happen there with no local base.

A real head of steam is building in the town against this proposed asset transfer. FoSTH feels taking on full responsibility for the town hall is too large a task for volunteers alone and is instead exploring ways to continue to share responsibility with Bradford Council, whilst increasing income to the town hall.
