I ATTENDED the regulatory and appeals meeting at City Hall in Bradford and addressed the committee along with Councillor Malcolm Slater and members of the public regarding the Keighley energy plant.

It was a sad day for Keighley; the legacy being left for generations to come is bleak.

We have gone backwards to the days of mill chimneys polluting our air within the valley.

This is not the legacy anyone wanted to leave our children and our town will now suffer from increased traffic of up 6.6 lorries an hour – or if you wish, 75 a day – trundling through.

The town has undergone major works to clean up the past mistakes made by our forefathers and the industrial age of days gone by.

That same day as the committee made its decision, the new dome was being lifted onto Cliffe Castle in a multi-million pound restoration project that will now suffer from the same pollution of bygone years. I am truly shocked and utterly disgusted with the committee’s vote.
