I WRITE in response to your online story – Keighley schools to receive awareness training in child sex grooming.

I am completely shocked and amazed it has taken this long to give schools the training.

While this is a good thing, it is something that should have been done a long time ago. It should have been done as soon as cases started to come to light, not just here in the Keighley area but in Rotherham and further afield.

Taxi drivers were given this training more than a year ago. And at a public meeting for the launch of the anti-CSE campaign more than a year ago, in Central Hall, Keighley, when Councillor Ralph Berry was portfolio holder and headed the meeting, I asked why town councillors had not had been given the opportunity to undergo the same training.

The response was “I don’t know” and that it would be arranged.

It has taken more than a year since that day for town councillors to get their training, but to learn this is even before the very people that have as much contact as parents themselves with their children is nothing short of reckless on the part of Bradford Council. They should have been among the first, if not the first, to be doing this training.

Once again, I find myself flabbergasted by the complete incompetence of Bradford Council and have to ask how many others within our vital services have not done this training or been offered it?

Still more questions to be answered by those tasked with protecting our children.
