IT’S about time someone intervened in the stupidity of two bus companies.

Both operate along mainly the same route to Harrogate, as the X52 and 62, but ten minutes apart.

Timetables for both have wandered around the clock since their introduction.

I have just travelled from Otley at 4.10pm to Silsden on the 62 Harrogate-Keighley service.

When I arrived at Otley bus station neither bus was there, but as scheduled the X52 arrived at Stand 1 on time.

I waited for the Keighley bus due ten minutes later. It duly arrived on time but couldn’t use Stand 1 because the X52 was still there, and indeed waited until my bus was due to leave and then went just in front of us. This pirate activity meant the X52 was late and would now pick up customers waiting for our bus, who weren’t going beyond Ilkley.

This obvious war is not in the public’s interest and I’m sure in neither company’s.

If there is a need for two buses an hour along this route, can we change the timetables (again) so they are half-an-hour apart and then benefit the customer.

I doubt if either company killed off the other they would take on the second service, so we would worse off.
