I AM writing this as President Trump authorises a 59-missile strike on an airfield in Syria, where chemical weapons were stored (and subsequently used against Syrian people).
This puts the local issue of Endless Energy’s proposed incinerator into perspective, when one takes a world, rather than local, view.
Whilst I am a local councillor with a clear duty to represent all shades of opinion within my ward, the town and the local area, I feel I cannot let Ms Halloway’s comments – Objections to letter (Keighley News, April 6) – go unchallenged.
lThe march was very well attended – almost 400 people, just not the “more than 600” whom AVAI claimed started from East Morton.
lBecause there were roadworks in Bradford Road near the Co-op’s pedestrian lights, marshals were physically stopping cars turning right into Canal Road and Compeigne Avenue in order to allow the marchers safely to cross these roads – this caused some pollution.
l I did hear two cars ‘beep’ their support during the march, during my ‘snapshot’ 15 minutes as the marchers walked past me.
lThe ground inside the “massive fence” has been bulldozed clear.
lKTC’s planning committee did recommend to Bradford Council that the application should be refused; the principal authority’s appeals committee voted to grant planning permission; the Secretary of State, having intervened, is now allowing the scheme to proceed and, like it or not, these are all legitimate democratic decisions.
Finally, I like Ms Halloway’s unintended pun – ‘Endless Energy [is] fuelling belief’ – surely no one can object to that!
