I WOULD like to place on record my thanks to Councillor Shabir Ahmed, who was last year’s Keighley Mayor.
It was a pleasure to be his deputy for the 12 months.
He received a great welcome at all of his visits, which included meetings with many groups from all walks of life. He had the most delightful sense of humour and was a credit to the town.
During his time in office, I introduced him to a lot of people with special needs. He even took part in a line dance evening to raise money for his charity appeal – The Special Olympics.
He supported the Guide Dogs for the Blind group, which eventually brought in a new guide dog called Keighley.
Shabir also promoted local businesses, local groups and charities.
Finally, I would like to thank Shabir for all his help for the town of Keighley, which was carried out with charm and dignity.
