I AM writing about a broken Government manifesto – the promise of more funding for transport in the north and electrification of rail lines.
Now Chris Grayling, Transport Minister, has reneged on this commitment.
Even worse, he has approved the Crossrail 2 project at a cost of over £30 billion.
This proves the unjust imbalance of funding for the north as against London and the south-east. Why could not this sum have been granted to the north?
To make matters even worse again, an increase in rail fares has been announced that is higher than the rate of inflation. Coupled with wage freezing/reductions, this represents a real cut in living standards which will be felt disproportionately in the north.
I call upon our local MPs to pressure the Government and Chris Grayling to reconsider this unjust and unfair distribution of funding.
