WITH reference to the article – Parking restrictions will improve safety (Keighley News, October 26) – I wholeheartedly applaud efforts to improve safety in West Lane.
However, my observations, as both a pedestrian and a driver in West Lane and surrounding roads, lead me to conclude road humps are a waste.
Those of us who keep to the speed limits will be slightly inconvenienced, whereas many others find them no impediment whatsoever and continue to travel at their chosen speed.
When travelling in a taxi, I have been known to request that the driver observe the speed limit, which resulted in a reduction from 40 to 35mph in Devonshire Street (which has humps) and a derogatory smirk.
As I am not a traffic engineer myself, I do not claim to have either expertise on these matters or solutions, merely experience of the roads in this area.
