AS ONE drives along North Street from the cross there is now almost a most pleasant view towards Alice Street, across the old Mechanics site or latterly the college building.
It brings to mind the many successful towns and cities across Europe and the world that are based on central, open squares.
If this open site was retained, it could be the means of restoring life back into our fading town.
One can foresee the closing of the no-longer-needed Lord Street and a café culture starting from the Ritz and the Lord Street buildings. The old college building would be ideal for a central hotel.
I am sure the mandarins in Bradford have their own plans, but isn’t this exactly what they did in the middle of Bradford around City Hall by creating the pool? Was that not a successful move?
Why can we not have something similar in Keighley?
