THROUGH your letters page, I would like to thank the people of Keighley for their fantastic response to our Christmas Toy Appeal.

We have been overwhelmed by the amount of toys, food and money that has come into the Keighley Salvation Army. At times it has been very emotional to see people’s kindness towards the families we are supporting.

Each day, throughout December, large amounts of food for our foodbank, toys for the children’s Christmas appeal and cash to help fund our community work were donated.

As always the people of Keighley, the local businesses, our churches and the community organisations and societies have supported us so generously.

I wish I could name you all, but unfortunately that would require the full page.

I would also like to thank the army of volunteers who were in the centre to sort and wrap Christmas gifts and pack food parcels, finally delivering them on December 23. You will have helped make many children very happy at Christmas.

And to the many volunteers who work tirelessly every week of the year, your support is invaluable to us. We would not manage to run the community programmes we do without your hard work and we are extremely grateful for your dedication to the role you do.

Finally, I would like to thank the Keighley News for its continuing support – I am sure the publicity we receive helps us tremendously. And to Sainsbury’s store for being a collection point for food and toys, not only at Christmas but throughout the year. Their customers donate large amounts of tinned and dried food each week, for which we are very grateful.

On behalf of everyone at the Salvation Army in Keighley, thank you again and best wishes for 2018.

CHRIS BOWN Community manager, Keighley Salvation Army
