I AM puzzled and annoyed at the current policy that allows many luxury homes to be built with a percentage of social housing included.

This is not helping the perceived housing crisis for many hard-working families on low incomes who wish to purchase their own homes.

Developers should also be forced via legislation to build affordable 'fit for purpose' starter homes for this reason.

There should also be incentives to build on brownfield sites and for the renovation of old and derelict properties to make this a viable business model. This should be a priority and hopefully save our precious green belt from further destruction.

A common-sense approach should be adopted at the planning stage.

Currently many houses are of the wrong type, do not fit in with the surroundings and have insufficient infrastructure.

Local councils need to lobby the Government urgently to try and bring these changes.
