THE members of a local message group I belong to are in favour of an open green space in Keighley at the site of the former college building.

I wrote a message saying I thought it was a breath of fresh air for Keighley and it should not be built on.

Comments included: “Oh, most certainly. Have been saying it for weeks. It opens it all up so you can see the hills – and places Keighley in its proper setting – leave us a lovely open setting.”

“I would love to see a park for the children.”

“I agree, it is lovely to see the beautiful countryside that surrounds Keighley. It really is a breath of fresh air.”

“I agree, the last thing we need is another glass and steel monstrosity.”

“I would think that the vast majority in Keighley and those passing through think like we do.”

“Couldn’t agree more. Lots of people I know have said the same.”

“A great idea. Let’s have open spaces in the town. Only drawback is the litter that is accumulating.”

“I totally agree with the lady who commented on how much better our town feels without a building there.”

“I totally agree. Making the town more green, friendly and attractive is what the town needs.”

“Yes definitely. I was actually saying that to my husband a few weeks ago. The open space will look lovely.”

No one was in favour of a building on the site!

As well as the problem of litter in Keighley, the group discussed the possibility that Bradford Council might build a one-stop-shop there.

There were suggestions that this would be far too expensive and that it could be done more far more cheaply in one of the existing buildings.

I would suggest there are already three possibilities: Keighley Civic Centre, the Bradford Council-owned hall at Alice Street and the previous location at Keighley Town Hall.

Let Keighley have what Keighley wants, especially as it is the cheapest option.
