Wicked – one of the most successful musicals of recent years – comes to Leeds this summer.

The show portrays the real story of the good and bad Witches of Oz, and reveals a hidden tale of secret friendship.

The London Evening Standard recently branded Wicked one of the most popular West End musicals in the light of its open-ended, record-breaking West End production.

The show has already been seen by more than 36 million people around the world, and has six productions running concurrently.

The West End production is in its seventh year at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.

Wicked is based on the novel by Gregory Maguire – Wicked: The Life And Times Of The Wicked Witch Of The West – that re-imagines the stories and characters created by L Frank Baum in his popular novels.

The show portrays the untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls, who first meet as sorcery students.

The blonde and very popular Glinda and a misunderstood green girl named Elphaba will eventually fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Following an encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths.

Glinda’s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba’s determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences.

Wicked has music and lyrics by multi Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz.

Wicked is at the Grand Theatre from June 10 to July 5. Call 0844 8482700 or visit leedsgrandtheatre.co.uk for details.
