Julian Maxfield and Tracey Thorne could be in dire straits if they don’t find some musicians.

They are seeking members for their new band The Sultans Of Swing.

The Keighley couple say they are passionate about big band and swing music.

Julian added: “The new band will be playing music from the old greats such as Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Count Basie.

“We will add to the repertoire with numbers currently peppering the charts, from the likes of The Undertones, Robbie Williams and Michael Buble.”

Julian said the feel-good swing genre of music appealed to all ages, and had never gone out of style.

He added: “Although the band has just recently formed, word is spreading and we are already taking bookings this year.

“Along with private bookings, we are keen to perform at public events and venues.”

The Sultans Of Swing will be playing the popular annual Proms On The Farm in Silsden on July 19.

The band rehearses at Woodbottom Working Men’s Club at Baildon Bridge, Shipley, on Tuesday evenings.

Julian added: “We are currently recruiting enthusiastic musicians – grade 5+ standard – who have a thing for swing!”

Saxophone player Tracey said the band would like to play music that got toes tapping, hands clapping and people singing and dancing.

Swing is a form of American music that developed in the early 1930s, and used a strong rhythm section with a lead section of brass instruments.

The danceable swing style of big bands and bandleaders, such as Benny Goodman, became the dominant form of American popular music from 1935 to 1946.
