Building Society Camerata will perform ten anniversary concerts in Skipton – one a month for each year of the orchestra’s life.

Ben Crick, the orchestra’s artistic director, said: “Chamber music was originally performed informally in a living room, so we thought it would be interesting to try to imitate this to some extent, rather than play in the traditional concert hall style.

“The venue will be set out with cafe-style seating so the musicians are in the middle of the space surrounded by the audience, bringing them close to the players and immediately involved with the music.”

Performances will take place at Skipton Girls’ High School on the second Wednesday of the month until December, with no concert in August. They will start at 7.30pm and tickets, priced £6, will be sold on the door.

The Camerata also decided to perform at Skipton Castle on Saturday.

Building Society Camerata began its tenth anniversary last month by giving a free classical concert in the concourse of Leeds Railway Station.

They wanted to play uplifting classical pieces to lift the spirits of passing commuters on what has been dubbed Blue Monday, supposedly the most depressing day of the year.
