This magnificent choir visited Haworth for a well-attended fundraiser for the church’s restoration fund.

Earlier in the day I had persuaded them to sing on our new bandstand in Haworth Park.

This was a foretaste of the concert and of course historic, as it was the first performance on the new bandstand. A crowd of some 70 to 80 were there to enjoy this.

This 25-man choir was ably conducted by Lowri Roberts-Williams and brilliantly accompanied by Gwilym Lewis. Lowri also played piano for some of the solo items.

We were gripped by the musical intensity of these men. Their raw power and passion for what they do was truly an emotional experience for all of us.

Their well-chosen program included many traditional Welsh songs, hymns and choir classics mostly in four-part harmony.

There is something very special in the sound of a Welsh male voice choir which they amply demonstrated. Maybe it is the Welsh language or accent and enthusiasm that make this difference.

Norman Evans sang three very entertaining solos, some with choir backing. We look forward, in hope, for a return visit.
