Up-and-coming folk band Lau will perform at Halifax Minster on June 27.

The trio has been voted Best Group four times in the annual BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Lau also achieved acclaim for their appearance on Jools Holland’s BBC2 show.

Lau had been described as modern folk music’s most innovative band thanks to their thrilling performances and free-thinking vision.

The band’s latest album Race The Loser was also its most acclaimed and best-selling.

It attracted five stars from the Guardian newspaper – which named it one of its best albums of 2012 – and was shortlisted for Scottish Album of the Year.

Lau’s 2007 debut album, Lightweights And Gentleman, had mixed original tunes with inspired arrangements of traditional material.

Follow-up albums spawned singles including the acclaimed Arc Light, while the band also began international touring, major festival appearances and musical collaborations.

The Guardian has described Lau as the most musically adventurous trio in British folk, exquisite and hypnotic, while Mojo magazine praised their instrumental virtuosity and beautiful interplay of accordion, fiddle and guitar.
