A flash mob will be created in Keighley town centre on Saturday.

Local people will be alerted via social media to go along to the Airedale shopping centre at 11am.

The hope is they will join in a couple of songs – whose titles are being kept secret by organisers – creating a major visual spectacle.

The flash mob is being organised by Keighley music studio Jam On Top as part of its lottery-funded Big Music Project.

Jam On Top’s own ‘music champions’ will perform songs before the 11 o’clock crowd performance.

Dancers and singers will assemble to join in with the song in the central island by Costa Coffee.

Jam On Top director Brian Leach said: “All the groups involved so far are extremely excited and everyone is just about set to perform.

“The nine young music champions from Jam on Top and the Big Music Hub will be using the flash mob to advertise their Shine Fest at Central Hall.

“The Shine Fest on October 4 will be a day of great relaxing music with candlelit tables in a cafe atmosphere. “ The music champions are Joe Drury, Rose Wheeler, Catriona Grange, Rosa Sargent, James Brickles, Robert Bullock, Laura Thornton, Amy Walpole andPatch Kelly.”

All nine of the young people being led and mentored by Mr Leach.

He said: “The idea of the flash mob came from the Big Music Project champions who also make all the decisions, planning, rehearsing. marketing and managing of all the event.

“This gives them all an invaluable tool to learn how to run and coordinate events that they may wish to continue in the future.

“It is a thrill to work with such an enthusiastic group of talented young people.”

The flash mob is among events on Saturday that will bring this year’s six-day Keighley Festival to a close.
