UPSTAGERS Youth Theatre Group has been chosen to perform the West End and Broadway musical comedy Sister Act.

The feelgood show is being performed from tonight until Saturday at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford.

The large cast includes young people from the Keighley area, including Dalton Wood, a previous leading man in Upstagers shows.

Upstagers was one of only 35 theatre groups across the UK to be selected to produce West End hit Sister Act.

The show tells the story of disco diva Deloris Van Cartier, a role made famous in the film by Whoopi Goldberg.

When Doloris witnesses her gangster boyfriend Curtis and his crew murder someone they think has “squealed” to the police, she runs to the nearest police station to tell them what she has witnessed.

She recognises Eddie, the desk chief, from school and he decides to put her into protective custody in the one place he is sure that she will not be found – a convent.

Disguised as a nun, Deloris finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and the uptight Mother Superior.

Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community, but in doing so she blows her cover.

Soon the gang are giving chase, only to find themselves up against Deloris and the power of her new-found sisterhood.

Twenty-five-year-old Bradford girl Naomi Hurtault has landed the lead role of Deloris.

It will be Naomi’s Upstagers debut, but she is no stranger to the stage.

She has been performing since the age of five, with various theatre groups and also television work.

To date, her favourite shows have been Scrooge, Barnum, Avenue Q and Fame.

Naomi says she is very excited to be joining Upstagers and looking forward to being back at the Alhambra.

Sister Act was written by Cherry and Bill Steyn Kelner, with music by eight-times Oscar winner Alun Mencken.

The performances include a Saturday matinee.

The musical premiered in Pasadena, California in 2006 and broke box office records records.

Charles McNulty of the Los Angeles Times wrote that the musical had "Broadway blockbuster written all over it".

Sister Act opened in London’s West End at the London Palladium in 2009, and after a successful run it toured the UK. It eventually opened on Broadway in 2011.
