THERE'S a lot more to Scottish singer/songwriter Justin Currie than his role fronting the band Del Amitri.

He’ll show these various sides of his music when he plays a concert at Leeds City Varieties on November 16.

Justin has been working successfully as a solo artist for several years as well as collaborating on a range of group projects.

His music is said to be dominated by strong imagery and storytelling, powerful yet understated vocals and a sound that, whilst firmly rooted in nineties pop-rock, translates into modern, urban ballads.

With influences including Nick Cave, Crowded House and Mark Lanegan, Justin’s music is “hauntingly dark yet refreshingly uplifting”.

Justin founded Del Amitri with Iain Harvie in the early 1980s while still at school, and he was involved in writing most of their hits. The band returned to the live circuit this year.

In recent years Justin has also fronted soul and jazz covers band Button Up, collaborated with singer-songwriter Eddi Reader, recorded a 60s pastiche rock album, and released solo albums.
