Sister Act - Upstagers

SISTER Act first hit the big screen in the 90s starring Whoopi Goldberg, as the singer who witnessed a shooting and goes into witness protection as a nun.

The movie was so popular that it transferred to the West End as a new musical which again proved that nuns can have fun.

The show has now been released to junior amateur societies, and Upstagers was one of the first to have had the privilege of performing the upbeat show last week at Bradford.

Alhambra.

The young cast certainly gave the show the joie de vivra it needed with every single member, from the chorus to the principal parts, putting their life and soul into the singing and dancing involved.

The choreography was extremely well put together with impeccable timing and the right mix of dance and comedy to make an entertaining ensemble show.

I do however feel that the cast were let down by the audience, with talking and several groups leaving the auditorium (and returning) during the first act. This was annoying for me as an audience member and I am sure off-putting for the cast.

This was a well put together highly energetic show which the young cast pulled off in spectacular fashion.

• Upstagers will present Tonight Is Music Night, a concert of songs from the shows, at King’s Hall in Ilkley on August 28 and 29. Call 0333 6663366 or visit upstagers.org.uk to book tickets.
