KEIGHLEY youth theatre KYDZ is heading off to the Emerald City for its latest production.

It will tonight and tomorrow present a send-up of The Wizard Of Oz as one half of a comedy double bill.

If I Had A Brain follows Dorothy’s adventures after she is plucked from her poverty-stricken Kansas farm by a tornado.

The endlessly jolly Dorothy tries to stay positive as she meets characters like the Bin Man, the Crow and the Cowardly Tiger.

She even encounters Alice, who thought she was heading for Wonderland but found herself in the same strange fantasy world.

There is something decidedly fishy about the land of Oz, for all the witches of the universe have hatched a plot to rid themselves of pesky young ladies who thwart their evil plots.

Something goes wrong, and our two heroines encounter Voldemort, Dracula, Red Riding Hood and characters from Twilight, Postman Pat and the Hunger Games.

If I Had A Brain is performed by half the 17 members of KYDZ, who range in age from nine to 17.

The rest of the group will present a farcical comedy set in Tudor England entitled Potion Commotion.

Fat old Henry VIII is nearing death and his feuding daughters Mary and Elizabeth decide to kill brother Edward so one of them can take the throne instead.

Meanwhile, Edward is reluctantly greeting a trio of suitors, Mary Queen of Scots, Lady Jane Grey and a Spanish princess.

The fast and furious story, which takes liberties with history, involves mix-ups between tonics, poison, love potions and truth serums.

The double bill is performed at Oakworth Methodist Church and July 24 and 25 at 7.15pm.
