GOLDIE Lookin Chain are among the headliners during the Saturday night at the Aire Do.

They specialise in comedic rap music and hail from the unlikely hip-hop town of Newport in Wales.

The group produces humorous, controversial and often exquisite songs that satirise hip hop, today’s consumer society, the chav culture and life in South Wales.

According to Wikipedia, Goldie Lookin Chain recorded six albums before getting a major record deal with East/West, home of The Darkness.

The first chart entry was Half-Man Half-Machine, a surreal song about member Eggsy dressing up in foil and going to buy cigarettes and crisps thinking he was a robot.

In August 2004 the group reached number three in the UK singles chart with Guns Don’t Kill People, Rappers Do, which satirised the American hip-hop scene.

Other songs have included Maggot, You Knows I Loves You and contain Your Missus Is A Nutter.

Many the songs are said to contain references to places and hangouts local to Newport, and the band has adapted hip-hop-style and language into the local South Wales vernacular.

Members of the band have appeared on TV shows including Celebrity Big Brother, Sport Wales, Celebrity Weakest Link and Snog, Marry, Avoid.

Eggsy and Rhys, another band member, have been continuity announcers talking between the TV shows on MTV UK.
