HAWORTH-based folk band The Demon Barbers spent this week in the south of England.

The BBC Folk Award -winning group has performed its XL music and dance show at towns including Hastings.

The group, led by Haworth man Damien Barber, for several years performed a Roadshow combining folk music with traditional English dance styles like Morris and rapper.

This formed the basis of a theatre show, The Lock-In, which combined folk dance with street styles like hip-hop and breakdancing.

The Barbers recently devised a stripped-down version – entitled XL – which could be performed at smaller venues.

The latest show features Scratch DJ Wax On and combines solid traditional acoustic instruments with the added oomph of a tight rhythm section.

The resulting sound is described as unique and captivating, featuring energetic fiddle, passionate vocals and drum ‘n’ bass grooves.

The Demon Barbers XL also features material from the band’s forthcoming album Disco At The Tavern.
