A KEIGHLEY woman who “dreams in sparkles” heads the cast of a burlesque show in Keighley.

Sian Chatfield, aka Bobbie Dazzler, will perform during the Hell-raising Halloween charity show at Keighley Civic Centre.

The “fun-filled” show, featuring a host of top Northern burlesque acts, will raise money for Manorlands, the Salvation Army and Keighley And Airedale Cancer Support.

Bobbie stressed that the burlesque featured in the November 8 show would not be seedy or demeaning to the women involved.

She said: “Burlesque encompasses everything from singing to comedy to circus skills, fire breathing, sword swallowing, and the thing it is most famous for, striptease.

“Not all burlesque acts are strip acts, and in all cases very little is revealed.

“If anyone thought they were going to a Spearmint Rhino type strip club for a cheap thrill they'd be very sadly disappointed.”

Sian, who grew up in Sutton, was introduced to burlesque by her sister, who had a burlesque performer at her wedding party.

Sian said: “I was instantly hooked. It was so glamorous, so intelligent and so funny.

“The costumes the performers wore were so beautiful, and the fact that it wasn't all stick-thin glamour model types.

“I never thought I'd be able to do it. I had confidence issues, was the wrong side of 30 and I believed my figure was all wrong.”

Sian began taking lessons, and also worked front-of-house and backstage during burlesque shows.

She said: “Whilst doing this my self-esteem blossomed and I became passionate about the art form. I dream in sparkles now!”

Bobbie Dazzler will perform on a bill that also includes Tawny Kay and Coco Blue Ferrari, and the show will be compered by April Lindsay.

Also performing will be Midori Dusk, best newcomer at Corsets and Cabaret in Wales, and seasoned Wakefield performers Bluebella Fields and Betsie Baker.

Alongside the women will be the “insanely talented” Rock Hart, who won the Tea Time Tassel Off in Leeds, and his heat at the Neo Burlesque awards in London.

Bobbie said: “The male version of burlesque is known as Boylesque, and Rock is one of the best up-and-coming Boylesque performers in this country today.

“I will be showcasing a new act for the show, as well as my signature act. This truly will be a night to remember!”

One pound out of every ticket sold will go towards the Keighley town mayor’s charity, the Salvation Army. A raffle will benefit the other two charities.

Hell-raising Halloween is strictly over-18s only, and tickets cost £8.
