A SEQUEL to hit musical Dreamboats and Petticoats will be presented next week at the Alhambra Theatre in part Bradford.

The original show, which boasted hits of the late 50s and early 60s, was spawned by a series of multi-million selling compilation albums.

Renowned TV writers Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran scripted a light-hearted story around the nostalgic songs.

The songbook includes Twist and Shout, Handy Man, Pretty Woman and One Fine Day.

The pair have returned to their characters, Bobby, Laura, Norman, Sue, Ray and Donna, to let audiences know what happened to the three couples.

Dreamboats And Miniskirts is set a couple of years later, in 1963, a time of change, and features some of the greatest hits of the decade.

Bobby and Laura’s single Dreamboats and Petticoats is only half a hit, Norman and Sue have settled down to non-marital bliss with a baby, and Ray and Donna seem blissfully happy… The advent of the Beatles and the Merseyside sound is inspirational for the sextet.

But will it inspire Bobby and Laura to have one more shot at stardom? Will Norman “get off the drains” and find the hit parade voice he has longed for?

And will Ray realise his ambition and manage a really top pop act? All will be revealed in a follow-up said to have the same wit, charm, and great songs as Dreamboats and Petticoats.

Since its premiere in 2009 Dreamboats and Petticoats has become a musical phenomenon, playing to more than two million people across the UK.

It was inspired by Universal’s album series which now boasts seven double compilation albums and a myriad of one-off special releases.

Universal Music released an album entitled Dreamboats and Miniskirts in July, the show is now touring.

The script was again written by Marks and Gran, the team behind TV hits like Goodnight Sweetheart, Birds of a Feather, The New Statesman and Shine on Harvey Moon.
