ILKLEY resounded to the power and excitement of Queen's magic last Friday.

The idol Freddie Mercury was in the hands of Roger Brown, whose huge voice and agility were a great credit to his source of inspiration.

The familiar line-up of the band Magic perfectly captured the inimitable Queen sound and visual patterns.

The cast included two sets of brothers: Trevor and Robert Lock (first guitar and drums) and Dave and Colin Chapman (keyboard and case guitar). Second guitar was David Fusard.

The show started in familiar style - the middle section of Bohemian Rhapody, leading to The Great Pretender. The second half launched an overlong selection of less well-known numbers, but ultimately a complete Bohemian Rhapsody came to the rescue alongside other favourites culminating with We Are The Champions, roared by both sides of the footlights. It was magic indeed. King’s Hall in Ilkley will play host to an “dynamic and uplifting” show by 1970s band Showaddywaddy on December 5.

The concert will include number ones such as Under The Moon Of Love, Three Steps To Heaven, Hey Rock & Roll, When, Blue Moon and Pretty Little Angel Eyes.

TV celebrity and raconteur Gervase Phinn will share his humorous and poignant anecdotes at the venue on December 2.

Gervase was a schools inspector in the Yorkshire Dales and has delighted audiences with his keen ear for the absurd and a sharp eye for the ludicrous.
