CHARACTERS in the latest production from Keighley Playhouse discover that the past is best forgotten.

Agatha Christie opens cans of red herrings and provides seemingly never-ending twists and turns in her thriller Go Back For Murder.

The play, performed from Monday to Saturday next week, is a “classic timepiece” promising an intriguing storyline.

The production of the Playhouse, in Devonshire Street, offers a whodunit with the revelation of a shocking family secret.

Go Back For Murder is based on Christie’s own book, Five Little Pigs, and is to have one of her strongest plots.

Caroline is sentenced to prison for the poisoning of her husband. Following her death, her daughter finds a letter claiming her innocence.

If this is true, then why did Caroline offer a poor defence? Would the truth be better out after her death?

Deborah Mouat, the director, said: “Carla is on a mission to clear her mother’s name and with the assistance of Justin Fogg, the son of her mother’s defence lawyer, they track down the suspects from the past and proceed to uncover the truth.

“Discovering what happened on that fateful day we must take an intriguing trip back in time – but that comes at a price.”

As the drama unfolds, the play flashes back to the time of the murder and in typical whodunit tradition, everyone linked to the victim had a reason and opportunity to commit the crime.

But why did Caroline accept her fate without a fight if she wasn’t guilty? Had she something to hide?

Deborah said: “Through inconsistencies in testimonies, Carla feels she can unravel the truth of what happened to her parents.

”You can watch the poison actually being administered - if you know where to look. But with everyone gathered together there is plenty going on to distract you.”

In the final denouement, like mentally unravelling a ball of wool, all is revealed in pure, classic Christie style.
